ARTIST STATEMENT

My work is bold and sends out a narrative through the use bright colors. I use them to create vibrancy to show light in my pieces as I go through the art-making process. My work references the symbolism of emotions and how light can affect the viewer. Usually, my work refers to stories in which I become aware of myself and my environment. I’ve noticed I’m attracted to the concept of growth and the continuation of energy. In my piece Animated Sunset, the warm, vibrant colors continue outward from their center point and connect with similar “energy” from nearby yellows, purples, pinks, oranges, and reds. My only goal for a piece like this is to create the same concept on a larger scale to continue the vivid energy. The bold colors were influenced by my Latin American culture and how I have interacted with it. These interactions have been inspired by family experiences and participating in cultural activities. It’s because of my experiences that I’ve become more drawn to conceptual work. I’ve started my motivation to create a story using colors and patterns within my work.
